SMEQA Project: Study Visit to Ljubljana

PUBLISHED ON: 13. June 2025

From June 10 to 12, 2025, the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Ljubljana hosted a study visit as part of the SMEQA project. The event aimed to enhance capacities and share good practices in external quality assurance and higher education accreditation.

The visit commenced with a welcome address by Prof. Dr. Tomaž Deželan, followed by sessions on internal quality monitoring at the study programme, faculty, and university levels. Prof. Dr. Irena Bačlija Brajnik discussed the role of the Quality Commission, and Prof. Dr. Deželan presented an example of a work-based learning quality assurance model focused on student-centered job placement. The day concluded with an open discussion and participant reflections on the topics covered.

The second day featured workshops focusing on internal quality assurance in higher education. Working group participants had the opportunity to engage in discussions, followed by group presentations highlighting collaborative learning and the exchange of ideas.

The final day of the visit was dedicated to presentations on the project’s work packages. Representatives from the University of Mostar, the University of Sarajevo, the University of Herzegovina, and the University of Zenica presented enhanced models of external evaluation, provided updates on ongoing activities and dissemination efforts, and discussed milestones and deliverables from the first half of the project year. The visit concluded with a presentation of the work plan for activities scheduled for the second year of the project.

The study visit marked another important step toward strengthening quality assurance mechanisms in higher education in Bosnia and Herzegovina, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange among all partner institutions.
